Psychic Labor Pains

Hi Doc Paranormal:
Is it possible to experience psychic labor pains when a close friend or loved one is pregnant?
9th Month

Dear 9th Month:
Perhaps the best answer is this e-mail I received last year from a man named "William." Said William, "I am a millworker with psychic links to my extended family. One example is from last year. I awoke at 1 a.m. with a very uncomfortable feeling in my stomach, a tightness and almost nausea. Nevertheless, I went to work and felt just terrible. Then I was in for another shock. At approximately 12:10 p.m., I heard the clear voice of my mother who had passed away five years earlier. She said the name of my niece, who was pregnant and due to have her baby any time. Because of this I got on my cell phone to see if my niece was in labor. There was no answer. And then the pain I was feeling got even worse. I was literally incapacitated. I took a break and started to phone my other sister, who lives close to my first sister and niece (they all live one state away from me). But before I could dial her number, the pain that had been tormenting me stopped as abruptly as it had started. Somehow, deep inside, I knew that the end of my misery meant that my niece had given birth to her child. When I said this to my co-workers, they just looked at me with disbelief--which isn't surprising since I'm 6'2", 240 lbs. with a salt & pepper beard. To prove I was right, I called my 2nd sister and sure enough, my niece had had her baby. She'd been in labor since 1 a.m., the time my own internal cramps had begun. And she had given birth at the exact time my pain had ceased. I now have a tremendous appreciation for what women go through. I once had a 3-inch gash put across my forehead due to a work-related accident, but this labor pain stuff was even worse. But please don't use my name. I've already gotten enough grief from the guys at work!"

E-Mail from a Skeptic

Dear Sir:

I visited your blog so I could witness the atrocities that some people still believe in. I'm shocked to see that in the 21st century people still believe in myths like "possession" and "spirits." They read these stories, which are only anecdotes, and then proceed to believe them, even though there is virtually no proof that such events are even occurring. Mankind has become so ignorant! How can people believe in spirits that have never been proven? Yet at the same time people cannot believe in evolution which has ample and profound proof. Anyway, I guess I'm just shocked and above all embarrassed to be sharing the same planet with people that are so mindless and ignorant. Use your brain, people!
Mr. Rational

Dear Mr. Rational:
Rants like yours remind me that James Randi has his annual skeptics conference coming up June 19-22 at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the event is that a number of noted scientists have accepted an invitation to speak at a conference hosted by an aging hack magician who has turned "skepticism" into his very own cottage industry and retirement nest egg. Is someone up to his old tricks?
BTW: I propose a Million Ghost March down the Strip during the weekend of the event. Anyone with me?

Obama Rescues Woman in Car Wreck?

Hi Doc:

I am not a political person, so I am not telling you this story to sway your vote. However, the incident that took place to me this past Monday is true. I live in the Great Smoky Mountains area and there are many winding roads here. It was late at night and I was driving too fast, so my car crashed off the road and into a tree. When I woke up from being knocked out I had a headache, but could see that my car was perched precariously on the side of a hill. But for the tree keeping it back, my car would have plunged into the bottom of the hollow and I surely would have been dead. When I tried getting out of my vehicle under my own power, the car rocked as if it would fall. Wondering how I was going to get out of this mess, I went in and out of consciousness until I was startled by a stranger tapping me on the shoulder. I looked up to see a tall, thin man with a kindly face in a white shirt and tie. He told me not to worry, that everything would be all right. Then somehow he lifted me out of my car like I was a feather and deposited me on the road. When I turned to thank him, he was no where to be seen. Then, ten minutes later an EMS truck showed up and took me to the hospital where I had a slight concussion that I have recovered from wonderfully. Here's the shocking part: While I was in the hospital someone gave me a Time magazine to read. Amazingly, on the cover was a photo of the kindly man who had saved my life. His name was Barack Obama. I don't know if he's better than Hillary or that other guy at politics, but I'm going to sign up to vote for him. My question is: with politicians always trying to paint a great picture about their exploits, why has Mr. Obama not taken credit for my rescue?
1st Time Voter

Dear 1st Time Voter:

A check of the records indicates that Barack Obama was not campaigning in Tennessee on the date you provided. However, there are reports that some historical figures, like Padre Pio, have been spotted in two geographically distant places at once. Whether Obama is such a saintly man remains to be seen.

Do We Like to be Scared?

Dear Doc Paranormal:

I just saw a horror movie where half the audience was screaming in fear or biting their nails. And they paid $$ to have this experience! My question to you is: do people like to be scared?
Frightened

Dear Frightened:
"Marilyn" lived in a haunted house, watched Paranormal State and Cops and went jogging alone after dark. There wasn't a bump in the night that didn't send shivers down her spine or a shadowy figure that didn't make her scream. But don't cry for Marilyn, because she loved every fright. Experts say that we all love to be terrified on occasion because coming through a scary situation helps build the confidence we need to overcome life's difficulties. Some people turn to risky activities like mountain-climbing or white water rafting. Others may confront their terror of the unknown by becoming a paranormal investigator of joining a ghost-hunters club. The little fears we deal with help us prepare for the larger worries that loom like spectres in the distance, awaiting their opportunity to strike.

Save $ on Phone Bills with ESP

Hi Doc:

I just wanted to pass along a tip to your readers who have cell phones. As I am very close with my house-bound elderly mother, I was spending a lot of time on the cell phone racking up big bills. Then one day my husband sat me down at the kitchen table and said, "Honey we can't afford this. I know you love keeping tabs on your mom, but this cell phone of yours is too expensive." He then ordered me to give him the phone and locked it in his floor safe, to which I don't have the combination. When I hit the roof and asked him how I should communicate with my mom, he said, "How about the old-fashioned way?" After calming down, this gave me an idea. My mother and I have always had a sixth sense about what the other was up to, so I decided to take it to the next level. After reading several helpful books, we began sharpening our ESP skills. Now, after three months of practice I can proudly say that my invalid mother and I "talk" via ESP several hours per day about anything and everything. We're saving oodles of cash. Plus there's an added bonus that my nosy husband can't listen in like he did when I used my cell phone.

Dear Liberated:

Given the tough economy we're now experiencing, I'm sure many readers will appreciate your money-saving tip. I have one bit of advice: When you are communicating via ESP with your mother, be sure to operate over a "secure line" so to speak, so that gossipy neighbors who are psychic don't overhear you.
